Royal Roads Quarterdeck
The Royal Roads Quarterdeck is located in the Grant Building on the grounds of Royal Roads University at Hatley Park in Colwood.
The Quarterdeck overlooks Hatley Castle which was built by coal baron and politician James Dunsmuir. No expense is said to have been spared in the construction of the castle and the grounds which overlook the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic mountain range beyond.
The Grant building dates to the property's later use as Royal Road Military College and the Quarterdeck was the setting for many formal military balls.
The Quarterdeck is an expansive room with no sightline obstructions, and shiny polished wood floors. It transforms magically - with draping and lights - into a festive celebration space for weddings, dances, receptions and other special events.
